Metro

The Sarjapur-Hebbal Metro Line, also known as the Red Line, is a planned 36.6 km route of the Namma Metro line connecting Sarjapur in the southeast to Hebbal in north Bangalore. It will include 22.14 km of elevated track and 14.45 km underground, with 28 stations—17 elevated and 11 underground.
Major stations on this route include Sarjapur, Carmelaram, Bellandur Gate, Koramangala, Dairy Circle, Town Hall, KR Circle, Mekhri Circle, and Hebbal. Some stations will be interchange hubs, allowing easy transfers to other Bangalore metro routes and improving metro connectivity. These stations will be shown on the updated Bangalore metro station map for easy reference.
The design of the Sarjapur-Hebbal line includes many interchange stations to give comprehensive connectivity. It includes
- Ibbalur Station: Planned to connect with the Blue Line (Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport); this interchange will provide direct access to key transit points, including the airport.
- Agara Station: This station is set to serve as an interchange with the Blue Line, which increases accessibility to various parts of the city.
- Dairy Circle Station: It is designed as a junction with the Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara). This interchange offers smooth movement between southern and northern part of the city.
- KR Circle Station: Planned to connect with the Purple Line (Whitefield to Challaghatta), this interchange will link eastern and western corridors.
- Hebbal Station: Designed as a major interchange, it will connect with both the Blue and Orange Lines, thereby serving as a pivotal northern transit hub.
Impact on Sarjapur Road and Surrounding Areas
- Traffic Decongestion: The Bangalore metro will help reduce heavy traffic on Sarjapur Road.
- Real Estate Appreciation: Better connectivity is likely to increase real estate development. It creates increased demand for residential and commercial properties in the area.
- Economic Upliftment: Improved accessibility attracts businesses and investors. It is good for economic growth and job creation in the region.
The nearest metro station to Bangalore Airport (Kempegowda International Airport) will be the KIAL Terminals station, currently under construction as part of Namma Metro’s Blue Line (Phase 2B). This underground station is designed to provide direct access to the airport terminals and is expected to be operational by June 2026.
Additionally, the Airport City station, part of the Blue Line, will serve the areas around Bangalore Airport. These metro stations will improve travel between Bangalore city and the airport, making it easier and faster for passengers.
